VIDEO: Governor Ducey, ADHS Director Dr. Christ, Arizona DEMA Director Maj. Gen. McGuire Share COVID-19 Updates

Governor Doug Ducey, Arizona Department of Health Services Director Dr. Cara Christ and Arizona Department of Emergency and Military Affairs Director Major General Michael T. McGuire today held a briefing to provide updates on COVID-19 and Arizona’s latest actions to protect our communities and contain the spread of the virus.

Governor Ducey today signed an Executive Order extending a moratorium on residential evictions until October 31, 2020, providing continued protections for renters who are facing economic hardship as a result of COVID-19. The state is also allocating $650,000 to Community Action Agencies for additional staff to process rental assistance for those in need. The Arizona Department of Housing is providing Chicanos Por La Causa $250,000 for the organization’s Statewide Housing Program, which finds housing for homeless individuals.

Additionally, the Governor announced today $5 million to launch the Foreclosure Prevention Program. The program provides financial assistance to individuals who rely on income from tenants to help them avoid foreclosure.

In total, state and local governments have made more than $80 million available to assist renters and prevent homelessness.
